Award-winning violin legend Tim Kliphuis (Holland) teams up with America's top “hot club” style guitarist, Sam Miltich (Minnesota) to highlight the music of famed musical duo Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. These two current-day jazz greats bring back the Parisian 1930s, alternating moments of dazzling interplay with melancholy and sheer exhilaration, as recorded on their new 'Duets' album.
Kliphuis and Miltich have a long history together, logging multiple tours of the United States and combining forces on Miltich's 2009 album, "Louisiana Fairytale." Miltich attributes their continued success to the fact that "it feels as though the music continues to evolve and reach greater musical heights. It is no small thing to organize tours and records across the Atlantic ocean, but the quality and spirit of the music keeps me coming back for more. I always strive for greater musical heights and with Tim and I together, we always achieve that."
Reflecting on the new "Duets" album, Kliphuis remarks that"music is about communication - making in-the-moment decisions about sound, notes and rhythm. The duet setting, new in gypsy jazz, gives us the perfect opportunity to show how exciting and spontaneous music can be."
"With this unique album, Sam Miltich and Tim Kliphuis explore the nuances of the guitar-violin duet. Here are the voices of just their two instruments, laying bare the players' improvisations in a simple, pure format."
